Movement Building

Grassroots movements have been proven time and time again that they have the power to drive real change.

As survivors of the sex trade, we bring invaluable insights, awareness and an understanding of the situational and economic factors that contributes to what is often intergenerational cycles of sexual exploitation and violence. We recognize prostitution as innately harmful and bring attention to the realities of those who have been impacted by prostitution and or by exploitation/sex trafficking, recognizing the intersectionality of both.

Building a Global Survivor Movement

Building a global survivor movement, a “bottom up movement” brings the realities and harms of the sex trade to the forefront, influencing policy and building broad support for Equality Model legislation throughout various jurisdictions everywhere. We also understand the need to address the policies that contribute to the “on ramps” into the sex trade, the vulnerabilities of women and girls and the need for pathways out. It all takes a very comprehensive approach.

Our Three-Pillar Approach

Our goal is to not only grow membership but to strengthen connections among ourselves, ensuring representation of survivors with the belief that we take a central role to push for policy and legislative change.   We aim to build a broad and diverse global network of members, especially those most underrepresented.

A broad network will bring new perspectives and ideas, strengthen our core message and amplify our voices in order to influence discourses and policies locally and globally as we work to dismantle the myths and misconceptions that continue to normalize prostitution.

We will do this by deploying various strategies, tactics, campaigns, both on line and in the streets with the goal of creating a groundswell of urgency as increased inequalities continues to render the most marginalized individuals vulnerable to sexual exploitation, often without a way out. We also work to ensure that members of SPACE are represented and at the table when discussing policies and lobbying for legislation as too often our voices are sidelined, and have often been limited to just re-telling of our story.

Organizing Across Borders and Generations

We are working to create an organized and grassroots base of those with shared experiences as well as shared values and shared commitment to ending the sex trade as it is the only way to end the growing sexual exploitation happening in the most vulnerable communities. We are working to bring survivors from different continents, different generations, different cultures together, providing a space where we can organize together.

Join the Movement

We are also deeply beholden by all the many allies that are committed to this issue who support the leadership of survivors as we cannot do this work alone. Together, we can create meaningful change towards a future free from sexual exploitation, ending the buying and selling of people.
